When It Is Laid At Our Feet

I have been thinking this for many days, but it took a visit to a friend's blog to make me realize I had more to say.

For days now I have seen commercials for the concert to help the tsunami victims and it makes me wonder when enough is enough. I mean no disrespect to anyone, however so many, including Canadians, have given an amazing amount of time and money to help. Canadian citizens alone gave almost 20 million from their pockets the last I heard and the government said they would match that (ironically that money also comes from our pockets). Now they expect us to watch this concert and give more!

My main reason for writing this is simple in it's design: 1)When do we stop jumping at what the media manipulates us to support? (I have no problem with helping the victims, but why the adverts showing people crying and clutching their dead loved ones, after all, if you ARE going to give, a simple number at the bottom of the screen will suffice and why show these people at this time in their life!) 2) Do we only take note of something when we are told it is a tragedy? (How many tragedies go all year without notice or at least minimal funding, the things like cancer research, alzheimers research and other disease curing research.)

I guess my concern in all this is will we all be left broke when "tragedy" is next laid at our feet? The majority of us gave to this, but look at what we ignore all through the year. We were told of the people now without home or family, however we have this tragedy right here, right now! The best example would be the children without a home or family, the ones for whom Christmas brings just another day, the ones that never know physical love in the form of a warm hug or gentle kiss, but know all too well a physical "affection" from an adult! TRAGEDY!

The words we use are now meaningless from over-use, the lies we wrap in truth conceal our intent and worst of all our eyes are forced open so much they can see nothing from being desensitized!

Do not wait for a tragedy to be laid at your feet, make your feet take you to a tragedy and while there DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT! After all most tragedies occur just minutes from your door and YOU can choose to make a difference. Do not be of this world while in it, but while in it be for it.
