A Rant?

Upon visiting a certain blog, I have come to realize that poetry is far too fluid of a concept to make solid in the mind of man. As with love, defining poetry is like grasping an epiphany from an enigma. Poetry seems more a man made mirage of self serving sentences than true art. Yet, here we are again, define art.

Define art? Define love, poetry and the meaning of all while you ponder the uncomplicated intricacy of the the interlacing entanglements of the the world of human depth! Human depth, again another fallacy. In the truth of all that this world holds, humans have the depth of a puddle in comparison.

Art is defined, as with many things by humans, through comparison. Unfortunately comparison voids unique. If the unique are made to walk the path lit by flame, then how are they unique? Conformance does not become the artist.

So, in my search to figure all this out I have decided one thing: Most poetry, just like art and anything else made by man, is useless except to fulfill a need of self-importance. However, a small fraction of the art is truly that... Art. More than meaningless words strung together or random colours splashed upon canvas.

How will you know where your "art" falls? The answer is simply complicated and here is why, if you truly want to know the worth of your life long ambition and effort.....DIE.

Defining art? Rather ambitious . . . poetry is fluid. It shouldn't be solid, but as for self-serving: I don't know. The good stuff should be less about serving the self and more about communicating the self. How one chooses to communicate is very distinctive -- the poet must have her/his own voice.

Humans go as deep as their courage.

I'm not comfortable with the idea that art is defined by comparison. Comparison with what? Something that works? Who decides if it works? Art, in my opinion, is defined by time, the choosers, and the appreciators; each with their own agendas. If you're looking for some pure criteria against which to measure art . . . well, good luck.

Finally, poetry is NOT useless. On the contrary, poetry is the chosen mode of expression of prophets, visionaries, God. Words are merely arbitrary signifiers (see ratboy) . . . perhaps we provide the meaning?
