So, I made an hour long drive on a long weekend and slept upon a poorly inflated mattress all so I could keep a promise to a friend (well, more like family really...but still) that I would watch Superman Returns with him. How did such a thing come about? Simple. Die hard fan of Superman keeps freaking out over changes to outfit, different actor chosen and so on. I of course think the movie looks like it will be good and therefore say so. Person freaking out makes me promise to come with when movie opens if I am so confident. And just like that it happened.
Anyway, on to the movie, which by the way took us two days and three theatres to see...long weekend, remember?
I saw Superman Returns on an IMAX screen, oddly there were only four scenes in 3-D. They worked this by having green glasses show up on the bottom of the screen when you need to put them on and red when you need to take them off, the green was ok, but the red came too late and your eyes got a bit jarred for a second. My friend and I joked that the fours scenes would be inside the Daily Planet during typing scenes and such.
The movie starts with the amazing theme by John Williams and that child-like feeling comes over you...I am watching SUPERMAN on a BIG SCREEN!!! All is going well and then we see the green glasses icon!! We put them on and see...Clark Kent walking from the farmhouse, a goat, and some corn fields...what the ...? Finally it kicks in to a short flashback with some cool scenes but really this was a warning sign, the person choosing the IMAX segments was willingly retarded.
Odd IMAX choosings aside this movie is AMAZING!!! There is too much about it that I loved to narrow down, but the one thing I totally appreciated ws just how great Brandon Routh is for the part. Brandon not only can portray both Clark and Supe, but brought bits of Christopher Reeve into his work as well. The movie even ends on a classy note by dedicating the film to Chris and Dana...nice touch really.
I have to see this movie again on the big screen because I know I failed to absorb something.
I highly recommend this great film, unless of course you do not like Superman, but if that is the case why did you read this?!
