The memories of you are mute
A once vivid portrait, which once proudly hung
From the prominent wall within my mind,
Has now faded in the light of your true self
Dust has settled between us
The moonlight, once star crossed,
Now a flashlight highlighting the sunset
The omniscient illumination of the past
Bless these hands that once held yours
No greater sin can be committed
A façade in lieu of love
Gentle tears have torn my flesh
Rancid truth has fouled my heart
May love lie to the side and have nothing of me
Lest I recant the breath I now take
Misled, I have walked a treacherous path
No more shall the leash be my lead
