I saw the new Indiana Jones movie...

Or should I say that I saw a new movie that had Indiana Jones in it?

While enjoyable for whatever it is, Indy 4 is not as enjoyable as the orginals. If they were to do this right I would have liked to have seen as many of the previous characters that stood by Indy's side in it as possible, alas...no (come on, not even Sallah is here, seriously?).

We do get some returning characters, either through actual presence or photographic necessity, but certain characters they added are not needed...at all (I am looking at you Mutt). The most unfortunate part of this whole film...I know, some will find many...is that I couldn't help feeling the role filled by Professor Oxley (Ox) in the film was intended to be Professor Henry Jones (why did Sean Connery have to stay retired for this one?!!! ...oh yes, the script...) and the entire movie would have been far more enojoyable.

There are some great moments in the film that remind us of the days Indy was, well more himself (yes, I know he has aged, but that is never a problem in this film, nor is it in any way what I am speaking of). There are moments you can't believe what you are seeing. These are not moments with incredible CG but instead moments ripped from Tarzan and Looney Toons...oh and what the heck is the fascination with animals this time?! The animals are like the Jar Jar Binks of this film...

Alright, bottom line is that this film is far from bad, yet even further from good. Worth watching for nostalgia, but not if you intend to relive anything you ever enjoyed before. Be wary and you just may enjoy this one.

I didn't mind the gophers or prairie dogs (or whatever they were). They were pretty cute and it didn't last long. The monkeys were a nod to the first film. As was the snake, of course. And that section in particular was funny. I also didn't mind the absence of Connery (though the lack of Denholm Elliot was sad, but I knew that going in . . . can't be helped. One of my favourite moments in the film, actually, is Indy's face when the statue breaks). And I didn't mind Mutt. Rather liked him/the idea actually. Made Connery's absence less of an absence. And Mutt was a great name choice. After all, Indiana was the dog's name! Loved that.

I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Probably as much as the first film. Certainly more than the second and third. But then, I'm not a really avid Indy fan.

I agree about Sallah. He would've been a good inclusion. Cause that side-switching guy was just annoying.

I liked Cate Blanchett. And I liked the love interest angle. I even liked most of the action and the effects. What I didn't like was the Spielberg effect with the interstitial beings. I needed more background. Unlike the other plots, this one needed more exposition in places to explain who/what those creatures were. It just seemed a little ET all of a sudden.

Overall, I really liked it. I liked that Indy was older. I liked the Communist angle. I liked the comments on formal education (though they were ambiguous at times). Lots of fun, really. :)
