this time...

To be wrapped in a blanket, though cold and wet
This time of year brings about a change
Brilliance upon the earth that should linger
Starlit frost twinkles upon the snow laden ground
As trees creek and crack in the whistling ruffian wind,
Whether naked of leaves or dressed in white for Christmas
Any other time of year the colour white seems bland, uninspiring
Yet our hearts leap at the sight of featherweight flakes falling to the ground,
While our minds begin to dance to tunes that our parents etched upon our hearts
The past makes itself present once again
Age is rendered irrelevant
Smiles become a natural and recurring event, despite ourselves
Decorations reflect the fireside light as families draw near
Joy prevails over all else for one all too brief moment
We pause to remember that a manger was used to make the world stable
This time of year brings about a change
Though cold and wet, we become enwrapped in a brilliant white blanket
