What a year! OR What, a year?

It turns out people tend to look back at the year that was...well, what was it?

Any year that begins with me still healing from an injury (albeit mostly self inflicted) and losing my reasonable paying job two bloody days before my 31st birthday can not be one that holds promise.

What the year did hold, beyond the usual frustrations and disappointments that allow me to know I am of this mortal coil, was a couple surprises that were not of the WTF variant.

I actually chose to write, well attempt to write, the rest of a screenplay that had been sitting on the upper shelf of my lower mind. While in the process of dusting of the shelving in my mind I also came across some old ideas that I will attempt to write and found inspiration for new ones too...now getting things from mind to paper is the key.

The year also found me in a new retail job, which I promised myself I would never do again, and while it pays nothing worthwhile it at least helps keep the hounds at bay...for now. The best part of my job is the unexpected friendships that have begun to form, most will fade when I do eventually leave (as is the way it usually happens) however there are a couple that seem promising.

Alright enough about me, my life has always enjoyed distraction so let me talk about things that took my attention away from the large amounts of suckage around me.

First the greatest surprise was a brilliantly perfect movie called The Dark Knight. Unfortunately, as with The Crow before it, this was a bittersweet affair. The Dark Knight is the closest to perfection that a movie has ever achieved in my eyes. An extremely close second for me is the movie Gran Torino which surprised me in many ways.

Other distractions were a bit older, yet still new to me were the graphic novels The Killing Joke by Alan Moore and The Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller. Also, Batman: Year One by Miller. (thanks to Christmas I am about to catch up on Watchmen)

The last I will mention was a pleasant concert going event, which is too blasted rare for me. Celtic Thunder was awesome live! Add some good friends to that and it was cool.

Basically this year, as many before it, has shown me that I need to not waste the little time I have on worry or the pursuit of money, but focus on the friends and family that I am blessed to have and find moments to share with them.

I have now bored myself, so let me just wrap up with a simple have a happy new year everyone.
